Shadowrun Returns is the latest adaptation of the 20+ year old pen and paper RPG Shadowrun, one which I’ve always wanted to play but never got a chance. The basic conceit is that in 2012, at the end of the current cycle of the Mayan calendar, magic came back to the world. Fast forward 40 or so years, and it’s basically Neuromancer with wizards and dwarves. It’s a unique setting, and a nice change from the D&D fantasy tropes. Plus, it lets you play out your fantasies of being a street samurai who can summon fireballs.
